Dear Logistic Expert,

 we would like to present you a  revolutionary planning tool, named CIOPS, that is used for the steering of containers between the port and the warehouse.

As all companies are purchasing more and more in the East, goods arrive in containers in the ports. Moreover, as the average container vessel becomes bigger and bigger,  the containers arrive in tsunami’s which is requiring an increasing flexibility and complexity management of the inbound supply chain.

The last mileage planning between port and warehouse seems simple but a lot of factors do play an important role determining the speed, the quality and the cost of this activity.

The planning software, CIOPS, controls 27 different parameters that support smooth deliveries of the most important containers at any moment.

These parameters control cost and service and provide a fast and easy administration.

·      Cost control examples are : demurrage and detention calculators, round trip times, waiting times at the different terminals, unloading capacity of the warehouse inbound areas, availability of unloading devices (such as conveyor belts, specific forklifts,…),… 

·      Service examples : containers with back orders or customer demand are prioritized compared to  containers with “stock goods”.

·      By using 1 database where the 27 parameters are updated constantly, info is immediately available for all stakeholders and the priority calculations are communicated in real time : always the most important container with the highest priority will be handled, based on the different customized parameters (container nr, entry codes , pick up references, drop off references,…).

CIOPS is integration software that can be implemented very easily without any serious development. It is positioned between the WMS of the warehouse and the TMS of the transport company.  Input into CIOPS can be excel based or fully automated with EDI connections to the other systems.

CIOPS is hardware independent and can work with all major hardware providers (Transics, Trimble, Descartes,…).

CIOPS is running  already for other customers and has a proven track record : payback is around 4 months; transport company can do 10% more shunts in the port with the same equipment and staffing; dispatcher has no stress anymore as 90% of the planning is automated and the dispatcher only interferes exceptionally.

CIOPS is een ontwikkeling van het softwarehuis Debreuck & Neirynck uit Roeselare. De toepassing draait al bij één klant, een multinationale onderneming in de haven van Zeebrugge, en omvat 2 modules. De eerste module laat toe om containers just-in-time en just-in-sequence te plannen tussen haven en magazijn. De software is geschreven als integratiesoftware, zodat ze makkelijk inpasbaar is in het spectrum van verschillende softwaretoepassingen in bedrijven. Aan de hand van 27 verschillende algoritmes krijgen alle planbare containers een prioriteit toegekend. Die algoritmes worden vastgelegd in overleg met de klant en kunnen in realtime aangepast worden op basis van nieuwe gebeurtenissen. Daardoor wordt met zekerheid steeds de meest dringende container behandeld.

De tweede module omvat een koppeling met het WMS en stuurt het yardmanagement en de bewegingen aan de loskades aan. Eens de container op weg is naar het magazijn, gaat CIOPS kijken waar de inhoud van de container gestockeerd zal worden in het magazijn. CIOPS gaat uitrekenen wat de minimale interne rijafstanden zijn om de goederen uit de container op de magazijnlocaties te krijgen. Op basis van de minimale rijafstand zal CIOPS de optimale lospoort voorstellen. Net voor de aankomst van de chauffeur krijgt hij via zijn boordcomputer de melding aan welke lospoort hij de container moet afzetten. Naast de optimalisering van het vorkliftgebruik in het magazijn, schakelt CIOPS zo ook een groot aantal bewegingen uit op de yard.
